Symptom checklist
What we hear from the bridge.
- ›UPS alarms on inverter fault, no transfer
- ›Start battery cranks below 9 V on emergency genset
- ›Lithium pack BMS comm error
- ›GMDSS reserve discharge test fails before 6 h
Likely root causes
Where the fault usually lives.
- ›Aged inverter capacitors
- ›Sulphation on flooded lead-acid
- ›CAN bus termination missing on BMS

FAQ
Common questions for this system.
- Which marine battery and UPS systems do you service?
- GMDSS reserve battery banks (typically Hawker/Enersys Powersafe lead-acid 24V), emergency genset start banks (Mastervolt and Victron AGM), Riello Multi Sentry and Eaton 9355 UPS feeding nav, IAS and main switchboard control, plus lithium hybrid systems with Corvus and Leclanche BMS. We perform Megger BITE3 impedance tests, ten-hour capacity discharge with a 200 A load bank, and float/equalize charge verification with a Fluke 1587 insulation tester.
- How long is a full GMDSS reserve battery capacity test alongside?
- Allowing for a one-hour reserve discharge per IMO Resolution A.694(17), the in-port test runs four to six hours including pre-test float voltage logging, individual cell impedance with the Megger BITE3, the discharge itself onto the actual GMDSS load, recharge initialization and a Hydran-style specific gravity check on flooded cells. If the bank fails the impedance threshold we can supply replacement Enersys cells from Florida stock within twenty-four hours.
- Do you provide a class-acceptable battery capacity test certificate?
- Yes. The certificate includes Megger BITE3 impedance per cell, ambient temperature, discharge current vs. time curve, calculated Ah delivered vs. C10 nameplate, and pass/fail against the IEEE 450 / IEC 60896 criteria used by DNV, BV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, ClassNK, RINA, TL and IRS. Load bank and Megger calibration certificates are annexed. The Safety Radio surveyor can lift the reserve battery item against this document the same call.
