Symptom checklist

What we hear from the bridge.

  • Shore power connection trips immediately at berth
  • Earth-fault monitor disagreement with shore RCD
  • Phase rotation alarm on US East Coast 60 Hz shore
  • Synchronising fails between shore and ship bus
Likely root causes

Where the fault usually lives.

  • TT-to-IT scheme mismatch without isolation transformer
  • Aged interlock micro-switch on shore plug
  • Shore breaker setting mismatched to ship feeder
Equipment we bring

Calibrated test equipment, class-acceptable reports.

  • Hioki PW3198 power quality analyser class A
  • Fluke 1735 power logger
  • Megger MFT1741 multifunction installation tester

Reports compatible with DNV · BV · ABS · Lloyd's · TL · RINA · ClassNK · IRS.

Often needed together

Parts most often requested with this service.

FAQ

Common questions for this system.

Which shore-power configurations and brands do you commission?
We commission IEC/IEEE 80005-1 HVSC installations at CARB-regulated California ports (Long Beach, Oakland), plus LVSC for OSVs and ferries on the Gulf and East Coast. Equipment lines include Cavotec MoorMaster shore connection panels, Schneider isolation transformers, ABB sync-check relays. We verify IT vs. TT earthing scheme selection, phase-rotation against the ship 60 Hz / 440 V bus and synchronizing closure with a Crompton sync-scope and Fluke 437-II power quality analyser.
How long does an initial shore-power connection take in a CARB port?
First-time connection on an unfamiliar berth typically runs six to ten hours: pre-arrival paperwork with the terminal electrical authority, cable-handling system test, isolation transformer megger on a Megger MIT525, phase rotation and earth scheme verification, synchronization onto the live bus, and a one-hour soak load measurement. Routine reconnections on a vessel that has the procedure proven are forty-five minutes plus the terminal's safety checklist.
Do you issue the commissioning report acceptable to class and the port authority?
Yes. The commissioning pack covers IEC/IEEE 80005-1 clauses 6-8 with Megger MIT525 IR readings, Cavotec/Wabtec panel functional log, sync closure oscillogram, Fluke 437-II THD and unbalance measurements, and the safety interlock matrix. The report is recognized by DNV, BV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, ClassNK, RINA, TL and IRS for the AMP/HVSC notation, and is in the format the Port of Long Beach and Port of Oakland environmental compliance teams expect.
